When price and CVD don’t match
Binance futures · BTCUSDT · FlowMap Chart
Price can rise while CVD falls. Price can fall while CVD rises. The close and the cumulative sum are answering different questions.
What CVD adds up is the arithmetic. This note is the disagreement: when the line and the price do not match.
What each one measures
Price is where the last trades printed. A push through thin size can move it a long way with little market-order volume.
CVD adds market-buy size and subtracts market-sell size across the window. It cares who hit, not how far the mid ran.
So a green candle (or a rising last price) does not require a rising CVD. And a rising CVD does not require a rising close.
Price up, CVD flat or down
Market buys are not dominating the sum, but price still lifts. Often the book was thin above, or sell limits pulled (bright band vanished), so a smaller buy print walked farther. Aggression was not huge. The path still went up.
That is not “fake” by itself. It is a reminder that candles hide the path — what BTCUSDT candles don’t show.
Price down or stuck, CVD up
Market buys keep adding to CVD, but price does not follow. Size on the ask may be absorbing the hits. That picture sits next to what absorption is: aggression without progress.
The four Learn patterns (agree, diverge, and the rest) stay in Learn · CVD. This page only names the mismatch.
What this picture is not
Not an entry. Not “fade every divergence.” Not a full-day session CVD — the line is the chart window on Binance BTCUSDT.
