What BTCUSDT candles don’t show

Trading BasicsOrder book

Binance futures · BTCUSDT · FlowMap Chart

A BTCUSDT candle is four prices and one volume number. Open, high, low, close. That is the result of the window. It is not the book.

Traders already know how to read that bar. This note is what the bar leaves out, and why FlowMap Chart draws those missing pieces on BTCUSDT.

What the candle does show

Open is where the window started. Close is where it ended. High and low are the farthest prices it touched. Volume is how much traded in the whole bar, buys and sells added together.

That is enough to see the result. It is not enough to see how the result got there.

Size that was sitting

A candle has no bid and no ask. It cannot show limit size sitting on the Binance book while price moved.

On FlowMap Chart that size is the heatmap. Brighter means more size was showing at that price in that slice of time. Dark means a thin book. Those limits can stay, get smaller, or vanish. The candle still prints the same open and close.

A bright band can sit under price for the whole minute. The candle does not draw the band. If the band pulls before price gets there, the candle does not draw the pull either. You only see that price went up.

Who actually hit

The circle marks on the heat are bubbles. They are market orders that already traded. Green is a market buy (someone lifted the ask). Red is a market sell (someone hit the bid). Bigger circle, bigger size.

A green candle does not say which of those happened. Price can close up because market buys kept lifting into size that stayed. Price can also close up because the ask pulled and the book got thin. Both bars can look the same. The bubbles and the heat do not.

The path inside the bar

High and low are two dots. They do not say whether the push was steady or one spike that came straight back.

CVD (cumulative volume delta) adds market-buy size and subtracts market-sell size across the window. Line up means more lifting the ask. Line down means more hitting the bid.

Price and CVD can disagree inside one candle. Close can be up while the CVD line is down. The candle has no place to print that. It only keeps the close.

The volume number on the candle is the whole bar in one sum. The VOL bars under the heat split that sum by time. CVP (the chart volume profile) stacks the same trades by price, for the window you are looking at. A candle cannot show the price where most of the size actually traded.

The book right now

A closed candle is already over. It cannot tell you if that size is still standing.

COB is the current order book: live bids and asks at the same prices as the heat. Bar length is size right now. The numbers are BTC, not dollars.

Heat is what the book looked like earlier. COB is the book at this moment. If a wall was bright and then it is gone on COB, that size already pulled. The candle you are staring at on another chart will still look like a normal bar.

FlowMap Chart, BTCUSDT. The heat is size that was sitting. Bubbles are market buys and market sells that already traded. VOL and CVD are the path in time. COB is the book right now. A candle keeps none of that.

The high is not a wall

The high of a candle is only the farthest price touched. Traders often treat that wick as a level that held. Sometimes size really was sitting there and market buys could not push through. Sometimes the high is just the last print before the book went thin.

The wick looks the same either way. The heat does not. A band that stays bright into the high is size that was waiting. A high with no band is price that ran out of offers. The candle keeps the price and drops the difference.

One green candle, two different minutes

Picture a green BTCUSDT candle. Close above open. Volume looks fine.

In one minute, market buys lift the ask and the bright band stays. Size was there, and a lot of it traded. CVD rises with price.

In another minute, the ask disappears and price runs through a thin book. The candle is green again. Fewer real hits. The heat goes dark where the band used to be. CVD does not match the close.

You cannot tell those minutes apart from the candle. You can tell them apart on the chart.

What this picture is not

Not a setup. Not a reason to buy the next green candle. Not a footprint. Not every Bitcoin exchange.

It is Binance futures BTCUSDT. ETH and BNB use the same layout with a different price step. For learning only — not financial advice.
