What a trapped trader is
Binance futures · BTCUSDT · FlowMap Chart
Price breaks a support line. A trader sells, expecting the break to keep going. Price comes back above the line. That short is a trapped trader.
They are trapped because the idea they sold is gone, and the short is still open. Getting out means buying back, at a worse price than the sale.
This note is that picture. Selling the next break, or buying because a break came back, is a different drill. It lives in Learn. This page stops at who is stuck.
The picture
The drawing is a candlestick chart. A horizontal line is marked support. Price walks down into that line, prints through it, and a label says break of a key level. Another label points at that break: entered short here, expecting it to continue. Price then prints back up through the line. The arrow on that turn says stop hunts. The title on the drawing is trapped traders.
One short, then the line is back
Say the line is 84,000. These numbers are an example, not a live print.
| What traded | Price | The short | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Still above the line | 84,200 | Flat |
| 2 | Market sell, the break | 83,900 | Short 1 BTC |
| 3 | Market sell | 83,850 | Still short |
| 4 | Market buy, back through | 84,050 | Still short |
| 5 | Market buy | 84,200 | Still short |
The trader sold 1 BTC at 83,900 because they expected 83,500 next. Price is 84,200. The break did not continue. Buying back here means they pay 300 points more than they sold. 84,200 − 83,900 = 300. That open short is the trapped trader.
A candle of those five prints can show a low at 83,850 and a close at 84,200. One volume number covers every hit. The bar has no place to write that this account is still short from 83,900. The path is in what BTCUSDT candles don’t show.
What this picture is not
Not a setup. Not a reason to buy because price reclaimed a line. Not a reason to sell the next break. Not every Bitcoin exchange. This is Binance futures BTCUSDT. ETH and BNB can print the same shape, with their own prices.
